Overview

Munnar, Kerala’s most famous hill resort is set at an altitude of approximately 6000 feet, the undulating hills covered with the soothing green of tea plantations have earned it the sobriquet, ‘the Switzerland of India’. Breathtaking landscapes, sprawling tea plantations, picture-book towns and winding hill trails make this a very popular resort town. Among the many exotic plants found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji that blooms once in twelve years and bathes the mountainside in a riot of violet.

Once a sleepy little hamlet, Munnar was developed by the British as an important centre for the cultivation of tea, coffee and spices. It was also a very popular hill resort with them.

The mountain streams, valleys and tea plantations make Munnar a favourite destination for relaxing and appreciating the beauty of nature.
