You will be picked up from your hotel and taken in an air-conditioned car or mini coach (depending on the number of passengers) for a historical and architectural sightseeing tour of Shanghai. An English-speaking tour guide will accompany you on this tour.
The highlights of your tour include:
• The Bund: The Bund is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai. It starts from the Baidu Bridge, which is at the connecting point of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, to the East Jinling Road and winds a 1.5 kilometres. Walking along the Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower can be seen on the opposite side and also the Jin Mao Tower. The two most famous buildings on the Bund are the Peace Hotel and the domed edifice that was once the headquarters of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Corporation (HSBC), one of the largest banks in the world today. The Bund was once known as the financial capital of Asia.
• Former HSBC Building (lobby): The lobby of the HSBC building is solar lighted and natural sunlight floods the atrium from above. Enter the building and marvel at the beautiful mosaic ceiling, featuring the 12 zodiac signs. Four pillars that frame grand staircases are hewn from solid marble. Only six such pillars exist in the world, and the other two reside in The Louvre in Paris.
• Old Jewish corner and synagogue: The famous Ohel Moishe Synagogue, and Ohel Rachel, are the only two surviving synagogues in Shanghai, bearing testimony to the once flourishing Jewish community that resided in Shanghai.
• Old French Concession: The French Concession is one of the most beautiful areas in Shanghai, and also among its most peaceful. This is one of the most rewarding districts to explore, where the combination of leafy, tree-lined streets, European-blended-with-Chinese architecture and independent designer boutiques is unique in the city.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel in Shanghai.
