This tour gives you the flexibility to enjoy your day in the way that suits you best. You can choose how long you wish to spend at each stop.
With your English-speaking personal guide you will travel through the extraordinary landscape of Cappadocia. See how nature has carved the soft local rock (tufa), formed from solidified volcanic ash, into fantastic chimneys columns, cones, mushrooms and pinnacles.
The tufa of Cappadocia can be easily excavated and the area is full of rock-cut dwellings, storehouses and churches. Your first stop, after a drive of about 15 minutes, is at Soganli , a beautiful, wild valley with numerous rock-cut churches. One of the most famous of these is the Church of the Snake so called because of the snake that features in one of its wall paintings.
When you have visited the churches, you will stop for lunch at the Soganli Restaurant, a typical Turkish restaurant. Here you can enjoy an open buffet lunch, consisting of a large selection of delicious Turkish dishes, including vegetarian options.
Next stop, after a short drive, is Taskinpasa. Here you will see a ‘medrese’, or Islamic theological college, and a mosque, both dating back to the Seljuk period.
In the afternoon you will visit Keslik, one of the biggest Christian monastic areas in Cappadocia. It has several churches carved into the rocks, and a large refectory hall. The caves of the Cappadocia region once housed the largest community of monks in Asia Minor. From here missionaries spread Christianity as far as Ethiopia.
After Keslik you will visit Cemil, an old Greek village, of which there were a number in Cappadocia. And you will also see the picturesque ruins of Kayakapi, an old Christian city.
At the end of a fabulous day's sightseeing you will be dropped back at your hotel.
