Overview
Sail across aquamarine waters to Xlaches Reef for some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean. Then dock at Contoy Island where you can say ‘hello’ to the friendly manta rays before being taken for a guided tour of this glorious nature reserve.
Look out for cormorants, frigate birds and pelicans and learn about the highly endangered turtles that nest on the beaches of Contoy.
After lunch and before returning to the mainland, you’ll stop at the lovely Isla Mujeres, where you can browse the craft shops for souvenirs to remind you of your day in paradise.
Itinerary
Hotel pick-ups for the magical Contoy and Isla Mujeres tour from Cancun start around 8:00am. At 9:00am you will arrive at Punta Sam where you will board your double-decker boat.
Then at 10:00am there will be a snorkel stop at Xlaches Reef for 45 minutes where you can enjoy swimming with shoals of rainbow-hued tropical fish.
At 11:30am you arrive at Contoy Island where you will be given a guided tour of this wildlife haven. Other than the birds and the park rangers who live here, the island's only residents are iguanas, lizards, turtles, hermit crabs, and boa constrictors.
Marine life is clearly visible in the clear waters around the island. In Imaxpoit bay, where your boat will dock, manta rays glide happily among swimmers.
Contoy is a haven for four species of endangered turtles, (loggerhead, green, hawksbill and leatherback) which nest on the island between April and October.
The nature reserve is also a sanctuary to many tropical marine birds; approximately 152 species have been counted. Birds you might see include pelicans, frigate birds, and double crested cormorants.
At 1:30pm you will enjoy a lunch of rice, fish, chicken, salad and fruit. Alcoholic and soft drinks will be available at the open bar. Then at 2:40pm you depart for Isla Mujeres (the name means “island of women” in Spanish). At Isla Mujeres you can have fun browsing the shops in downtown – a great place to pick up authentic Mexican crafts and jewellery.
At 5:00pm you return to Punta Sam, where you disembark and will be transported back to your hotel.
