Ride the Kuranda Scenic Rail to Kuranda Village. This scenic railway offers incredible views of the rainforest as it winds its way through hand hewn tunnels and travels past the cascading waters of Barron Falls and Stoney Creek Falls.
Kuranda village is nestled in mountaintop rainforest and has vibrant heritage markets, restaurants and cafes. Kids particularly enjoy a visit to the Kuranda Koala Gardens to see koalas, wombats and kangaroos or a visit to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary to see numerous species of butterfly.
Travel down from Kuranda on the Kuranda Skyrail Rainforest Cableway which offers breathtaking views as it glides over a canopy of trees. Immerse yourself in the story of the ancient Tropical Rainforest with the multi-lingual Skyrail App and audio guide.
You will be picked up from your hotel/accommodation and will travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to the Freshwater Station which is the departure point for the train.
Travel to Kuranda aboard the Kuranda Scenic Rail, that runs from Cairns to Kuranda. This is one of the most beautiful train routes in Australia.
As the train chugs up the hill to the Kuranda, it will cross many hand-hewn tunnels and bridges giving you an excellent view of the rainforest. You will see many waterfalls such as Barron Falls and Stoney Creek Falls on the way to Kuranda. Both are very picturesque – remember to take pictures here!
After covering a distance of about 35 kilometers which takes about 90 minutes, the train will then stop at Kuranda Station where you will disembark. You will then have time at leisure to explore Kuranda. This mountain retreat has historic buildings that now house restaurants, bars and cafes. Stroll through the ‘heritage market’ that operates daily and shop for souvenirs: Aboriginal artifacts and other handcrafted goods found here are particularly beautiful.
Enjoy lunch in one of the restaurants (payable direct) before proceeding to explore Kuranda further.
You may visit the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld or the Kuranda Koala Gardens (all payable direct). See a variety of amazingly beautiful butterflies and animals and marvel at the natural beauty that this region is so rich in.
You will then proceed to the departure point to board the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for the world’s most beautiful rainforest experience. As the skyrail glides over a canopy of trees, see the variety of foliage present here. There will be two stops enroute where you may choose to walk through the rainforest.
Get to know the tales of the ancient Tropical Rainforest with the multi-lingual Skyrail interpretive App and audio guide. Travel along the cableway with a smartphone in your hand and know the unheard stories and track the rainforest experience in real time. Learn about the unique residents of the rainforest and bring to life butterflies, snakes, cassowaries and more unique creatures.
The skyrail will drop you at Caravonica Lake from where you will be picked up and taken back to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle.

This tour is suitable for senior citizens also as there are no long walks involved.
It is possible to bring a walker if an elderly person is traveling but only when the stay is in a cairns hotel. Please inform us in advance if you wish to bring a walker along so that we can reserve space for it.
