At the start of your Rio Sightseeing Tour – Sugar Loaf and Cable Car, you will be picked up from your hotel in a coach at a time pre-arranged with the activity operator. An English-speaking guide will go with you on this excursion.
The trip starts with a sightseeing tour of downtown Rio, passing by the Sambodrome, huge parade ground used during the Carnival, and the huge cone-shaped Metropolitan Cathedral, a masterpiece of modern architecture.
You will see Cinelândia Square with its historical buildings, the Municipal Theater, the National Library and the National Museum of Fine Arts. By way of the Aterro do Flamengo, you will be taken to the neighborhood of Urca to visit the iconic Sugar Loaf Mountain.
To ascend this dramatic peak you will take a cable car in two stages. The cabins are totally glassed-in to give you fantastic aerial views. The first cable car takes you to Urca Hill, a vantage point 215 meters high. Here, there is a wide platform with trails in the middle of deep vegetation and observation posts located at different heights. You will see beautiful views of Guanabara Bay and its islands, the Rio-Niterói Bridge and Corcovado Mountain.
From Urca, a second cable car will take you right up to the top. This is also a marvellous ride with breath-taking views. At the summit - 395 meters (1283 feet) – you’ll enjoy splendid panoramas of Copacabana beach, the Santa Cruz fortress and several beaches of Niterói.
You will ride the cable car back down to the bottom and board your coach for the return to your hotel, or the cruise port.
