Explore a green paradise on the Tijuca Rain Forest Jeep Tour from Rio de Janeiro. This delightful half-day excursion is available in the morning or the afternoon.
At a time pre-arranged with the activity operator, you will be picked up from your hotel (or the cruise port). You will travel in an open jeep to the Tijuca Rain Forest, a beautiful National Park on the fringes of Rio. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on the trip.
The area has an interesting history, having been replanted in the 19th century after the original forest had been felled for coffee farms.Today, Tijuca National Park is the largest urban forest in the world, home to 30 waterfalls, hundreds of plants and trees and at least 100 different species of animals. The park actually reduces the medium temperature of Rio by approximately 9 degrees!
You will pass by the ‘Cachoeira dos macacos’ (Monkey’s Waterfall). At ‘Vista Chinesa’ (Chinese view) you can take pictures. Your guide will tell you about the ecology of the forest, known to scientists as ‘Mata Atlântica’ (Atlantic Forest), and why it is important to human beings and to wildlife.
You will also pass by the ‘Mesa do Imperador’ (Emperor’s table), Cascatinha (Taunay’s Waterfall), and Capela Mayrink (Mayrink Chapel).
Next, you will enjoy an approximately 1-hour hike along an easy trail in which your guide will tell you about the amazing plants of Tijuca. During the hike you will see many different types of tropical fruits and trees, plus monkeys, birds and butterflies.
At the end of the tour you will be driven back to the city and dropped back at the starting point.
