Begin with a foray into the Bolivian wilds at one of the last untouched natural reserves in the world, the national parks of Santa Cruz. Your first trek is into the Amboro National Park, a birding haven where you can spot horned curassow, the endemic cock-of-the-rocks, quetzal, chestnut-fronted macaw the list goes on as there are 712 registered bird species and as yet only half of the park has been explored! Besides the birds, you will find the rare spectacled bear, capybaras, and tapirs amongst many others. Need a break? Take a dip in the natural pools formed by the Puerto Picon waterfalls.
If birds awed you in Amboro, get ready for an unforgettable encounter with the big beasts in Kaa Iya National Park, the largest dry tropical forest reserve in the world. Here, you will come across more than 100 species of mammals like fierce jaguars, giant armadillos, pumas, peccaries, and Chacoan guanacos. Next on your jungle odyssey is the Noel Komeff National Park that houses seven different ecosystems. Here, you can take motorized boat rides along Itenez River where you can find fresh water dolphins, families of Giant Otters, and the rare Black Caiman. Exploring the gallery forests and vast expanse of the savannas along the river, you can spot toucans, white woodpeckers, and the rare Coati Mundi and Silvery Marmoset.
