Overview

Bangalore, the capital of the south Indian state of Karnataka ranks as one of the fastest growing cities in Asia. In the last couple of years it has become the Silicon Valley of India. Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister termed it as ‘India's city of the future’.

Bangalore is also called the ‘Garden City of India’ because it has beautiful gardens and boulevards. Its pleasant climate, friendly people and laid-back charm attracts tourists from around the world.

This tour will show you some of the major attractions of the city, including Lal Bagh which was laid out in the 18th century and contains trees that date back many centuries. While the roses bloom throughout the year, a particularly good time to visit Lal Bagh is January when the garden is a riot of colours. Don’t miss it.

Itinerary

For this sightseeing tour, you will be picked up from your hotel in Bangalore and will travel in an air-conditioned vehicle accompanied by a local English-speaking guide. You will visit:

Lal Bagh: Laid out in the 18th century by Haider Ali and his son Tipu Sultan who once ruled Mysore, the garden has a variety of old trees, fountains, lotus pools, terraces and tropical and sub-tropical herbs. The garden has a profusion of red roses, hence its name Lal Bagh, which literally means ‘red garden’.

Bull Temple: This is one of Bangalore’s oldest temples. Built in the 16th century in the Dravidian style, the deity is the huge bull, Nandi, considered by believers to be the vahan (vehicle) of the Hindu God Shiva. See the gigantic bull measuring 4.57 metres in height and 6.10 metres in length which is carved out of a single rock!

You will then drive past the Government Secretariat, the Vidhan Soudha, constructed in the neo-Dravidian style and which today houses the state legislature, and Cubbon Park, Bangalore’s equivalent of New York's Central Park.

After this sightseeing tour, you will be dropped back to your hotel.
