Our first stop will be medieval city of Ghent. Ghent is Flanders' unsung city. Sandwiched between Brussels and Bruges, this attractive medieval canal city has been long been overlooked by visitors on the traditional arttown hop between Belgium's big three. Although the Saint Bavo Cathedral is impressive from the outside, formidable queues form to see the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb an altarpiece painted by Jan Van Eyck. See the 14th-century World Heritage-listed belfry rising from the old cloth hall, admire the towers of the medieval Gravensteen castle and closer to hand, the Graslei; the most photographed waterfront promenade with its magnificient guildhouses. It is no surprise, perhaps, that Ghent is the preferred city of many regular visitors to Flanders.
Then see the charming medieval city of Bruges.
Be welcomed by the famous white swans on the Lake of Love. Take a boat trip on the city’s famous canals, and promenade along the Market Square, with its soaring Belfry Tower and medieval halls.
You will see the Chapel of the Holy Bloodwhere it's believed Christ's blood was taken after the crusades and authentic Alms Houses.
Bustling Ostend was once one of Europe's most stylish seaside resorts. It was here that US singer Marvin Gaye wrote one of his greatest soul songs of all time, Sexual Healing. Great sandy beaches, a casino, racetrack, art museums, good shopping, sailing and windsurfing and a legitimate reputation of being a seafood cornucopia.
Your full-day guided tour through the north of Belgium will conclude with a return to Brussels.
