The province of Salzburg is the nonpareil of beauty, attracting guests from all over the world. The major attractions are the Salzachtal Valley, which offers a unique spectacle of nature: the Krimmler Falls and the Tennengebirge mountain range. Salzburg is the most prominent city in this region. Known as the ‘stage of the world,’ it has the distinction of hosting more than 4000 cultural events annually, and is easily one of the most important cultural metropolises of Europe. It is also the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The city is well known for its churches, castles, palaces and cultural events. Salzburg's Cathedral is probably the city's most significant piece of church architecture. Another famous landmark in Salzburg is Festung Hohensalzburg, which is probably the largest intact fortress in the Central European region.
