Stop at a wildlife sanctuary to ‘cuddle a koala’ and meet other delightful animals. Then travel to the magnificent Blue Mountains where towering sandstone crags rise above a deep green sea of eucalyptus and other trees. Walk through an enchanting ‘Cathedral’ of tree ferns and skim over the lush rainforest on a breathtaking cable car ride.
See the magnificent rock formations that are the stuff of legends and enjoy lunch in an English-style cottage garden.
This will be a day of knock-your-socks-off views, fabulous photo-opportunities and marvelous memories.
At the start of your Blue Mountains Tour you will be picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned mini-coach. Accompanied by your German speaking guide, you will drive across the northern suburbs of Sydney in a mini-coach to the Koala Sanctuary. Here you can meet adorable koalas and other fascinating Australian animals.
Leaving the Koala Sanctuary, you will drive on to Windsor. Located on the Hawkesbury River, Windsor is the third-oldest place of British settlement on the Australian continent. The area was originally called Green Hills, but renamed Windsor (after Windsor in England). You will make a stop and have a chance to stroll through the historic town.
Boarding the vehicle again, you will travel across the mighty Hawkesbury River to the sandstone plateau of the Blue Mountains, 1000 meters above sea level and a UNESCO World Heritage Area. This is an area of stunning beauty with cliffs, pinnacles and gorges towering over thick forest.
The Mountains get their name from the blue tinge that surrounds them when they are viewed from a distance. It is widely but incorrectly believed that the haze comes from the light reflecting off the vapors from the eucalyptus trees.
At the top of Mount Wilson take a walk into the delightful Cathedral of Ferns, where short trails wind through a lush rainforest. There is a 'giant tree' as well as huge tree ferns, sassafras, a wide range of eucalypts and coachwood trees.
You will stop for a light lunch (a sandwich, fruit and juice) in an English cottage garden setting and then visit Govetts Leap, a lookout with spectacular views of the Grose Valley and nearby waterfalls plus Australia’s own ‘Grand Canyon’.
Next, you will enjoy a breathtaking run on the Sceniscender cable-car that takes you down to a boardwalk in luxuriant rainforest. After a leisurely stroll, take the scenic rail back again to the top.
See the three dramatic rock pinnacles known as ’The Three Sisters’ and learn the Aboriginal dream-time legend that explains the name.
Then board your mini-coach for the return journey. You will travel though the village of Leura and arrive back in Sydney after a side-trip to Olympic Park, the facility created for the 2000 Olympics and now converted to a multipurpose complex.
At the end of your great day out, you will be dropped back at your Sydney hotel.
