Travel far into the bush to experience Aboriginal culture at first hand in a flourishing Outback community. Learn about bush medicine, Dreamtime and the Aborigines' deep spiritual connection to the land.

See the influence of early Catholic Missionaries in the spectacular murals covering the walls of a church. Hear the stories behind these paintings and how they reflect aspects of Aboriginal society such as environment, kinship relationships and responsibilities.

Lose yourself in the glorious colour and rich pattern of the work of artists at the Keringke Art Centre, some of them world famous. Aboriginal art is becoming highly collectable and you will have the opportunity to acquire your own original piece.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Alice Springs and travel around 80km in an air-conditioned coach over bush roads into the interior, crossing vast outback cattle stations on the way and learning about Aboriginal culture from your English-speaking guide as you go.

Follow unsealed, unfenced roads deep into the red desert. This tour offers you a chance to engage with one of the world's oldest cultures, dating back at least 50,000 years and possibly as much as 150,000 years.

You will visit the Santa Teresa Aboriginal Community and view the stunning murals at Santa Teresa Catholic Church. Meet the Eastern Arrernte people at this genuine Aboriginal community, where modern influences and ancient customs blend on a daily basis. Learn about bush medicine, Dreamtime, and the deep spiritual relationship between these indigenous people and the land.

Visit the Keringke Art Centre, where you can meet Aboriginal artists, some of them world-famous, and see them at work. Keringke artists have a distinctive vibrant style, using rich bright colours and flowing designs.

Aboriginal art is growing in popularity. You will have the opportunity to acquire original works by Keringke artists.

On your return from the tour you will be dropped off at your hotel in Alice Springs.
