You will be picked up at your Alice Springs hotel and will travel in an air-conditioned coach, with a narrated commentary in English.
On this exciting tour you will first explore the highlights of Alice Springs, then journey into the rugged immensity of the West MacDonnell Ranges, one of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth.
Tour highlights include:
• Anzac Hill Lookout: Enjoy panoramic views of Alice Springs and the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges from this famous viewpoint.
• Downtown Alice Springs:This 136-year old settlement is the heart of Australia's red center. Visit Todd Mall, The Residency and The Old Courthouse.
• John Flynn Memorial: A tribute to a truly inspirational man, who worked tirelessly for the people of the Outback and founded the Flying Doctor Service. Rev. John Flynn died in 1951 and his ashes are buried under a huge stone at the foot of Mt Gillen.
• Standley Chasm: A 5-meter fissure in solid rock that goes right through the range and a place where sunlight hits the floor only at midday. Take a guided walk along Angkale dry creek bed to this dramatic, deep, red cleft and marvel at the ever-changing light playing on the sheer sandstone walls.
• Simpsons Gap: Take a short guided walk to this beautiful gorge with towering red-ochre walls, guarded by two striking ghost gums that stand like sentinels in the desert. Look out for rare plants and black-footed wallabies on the way. The area is an important spiritual site to the Arrernte Aboriginal people, where several dreaming trails and stories cross.
At the end of your tour you will be dropped off at Red Ochre Grill Restaurant on Todd Mall (opposite the theatre).
