Discover the story behind Argentina’s most famous dance form on the Buenos Aires Tango Tour. At the start of the tour, you will be picked up from your downtown hotel in a comfortable coach.
The tango originated in the lower-class districts of Buenos Aires sometime at the end of the 19th century, inspired by a mixture of influences from Spanish and African cultures. Dances from the ‘candombe’ ceremonies of former slave peoples helped shape the modern tango. The music derived from the fusion of various forms of music from Europe. In 2009, the tango was declared as part of the world's ‘intangible cultural heritage’ by UNESCO.
During this 4-hour excursion you’ll learn about Carlos Gardel – singer, songwriter and actor, often known as ‘The King of Tango’. He grew up in Buenos Aires and made hundreds of tango music recordings as well as writing several classic tangos.
Accompanied by your guide, you’ll visit several tango hot spots around the city that helped establish the dance form. And then you get the chance to try this beautiful dance for yourself. Enjoy an exclusive 1 ½ hour class taught by professional tango dancers.
Lessons are not compulsory and you won't be obliged to take part. If you don’t wish to join in you can just sit back and watch the class.
There is no hotel drop-off for this excursion. On Thursdays the tour ends at the studio and Saturdays the tour ends at the Tortoni Café where you will be offered a complimentary cup of coffee.
