For your Buenos Aires City Tour, Palermo & Ecological Reserve you will be picked up from your hotel in central Buenos Aires before 9.00 am in a comfortable vehicle. An experienced multi-lingual guide (English, Spanish, Portuguese) will accompany you.
Your excursion begins with the symbol of the city, the Obelisk. This giant monument was built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Buenos Aires.
Next you will visit some of the city’s famous squares (plazas) with their lovely Spanish colonial architecture. In Plaza de Mayo you’ll stop to see the unmistakable pink façade of Casa Rosada (Government House), occupying the whole east side of the plaza. Here, in her heyday, Eva peron addressed the adoring crowds. Other lovely squares on your route are Plaza San Martín, and Plaza Congreso.
You will also see famous avenues such as Avenida 9 de Julio, named in honor of Argentina’s Independence Day. The broadest avenue in the world, it consists of 12 lanes, six on each side. Other fine avenues include Avenida Corrientes and Avenida Mayo.
The tour also takes in the many impressive sights to be seen in the financial and commercial districts. And, given that soccer is Argentina’s favorite pastime, you won’t be surprised to see many massive football stadiums throughout the city.
Buenos Aires has been a multi-cultural city for generations and a vibrant mix of European and South American influences can be found in the architecture. Your route takes you through La Boca, a pretty neighborhood with a strong Italian flavor, where you will make a stop. You will see many colorful houses, tango clubs, and tavernas. This district is also famous as the home of Boca Juniors, one of South America’s top football clubs.
Other attractive historic areas include San Telmo and Montserrat as well as the elegant districts of Palermo and Recoleta. In Recoleta you make a stop at the cemetery where Eva Peron (Evita is buried).
As you travel between neighborhoods you will enjoy the fresh greenery of Lezama Park and Tres de Febrero Park.
