  • Overview & Itinerary

Tour the oldest parts of Amsterdam and trace more than 800 years of Amsterdam’s history with this guided walking tour.

Walk along the canal and pass by the old monuments that line the streets of Dam Square, Begijnhof, Chinatown and the Red Light Area. You will also get the chance to sample some local Dutch delicacies like herring, cheese and genever.

Meet your guide at the meeting point and set off on your Amsterdam walking tour. The major highlights that you will cover during the course of the tour are as follows:

Dam Square: Visit the pigeon-populated, fascinating square established in the 13th century when a dam was formed around the River Amstel to prevent the city from flooding.

Wallen, the Red Light District: Take a walk through the old streets and pass by iconic monuments as your guide reveals the area’s rich history and explains the inner workings of the sex industry.

The Begijnhof:See charming houses and postage-stamp gardens around a grassy courtyard, formerly a city convent established in the 14th century.

Zeedijk: One of the oldest streets in Amsterdam, Zeedijk was once a popular shipping district but now houses chic and lively cafés, bars and eateries.

Chinatown: Right next to the red light district, Amsterdam’s Chinatown is bustling with local businesses and restaurants.

During the course of the tour, your guide will focus on the history of Amsterdam; how the city developed from a tiny settlement on the banks of the River Amstel to the unique, multi-faceted and fascinating city of today. You will also indulge in typical Dutch delicacies like herring, cheese and genever.

Your tour will end at the original departure point after which you are free to explore the city at your leisure.
