The Piazza del Popolo has long been popular with visitors. At the heart of the square is the Egyptian obelisk of Ramses II with magnificent fountains around the base.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your centrally located hotel and travel by coach to the Vatican. En route you will cross many important landmarks including:

• Piazza della Republica: In the middle of the square is the magnificent Naiadi Fountain featuring four reclining nymphs who represent the spirits of rivers and springs.
• Piazza Barberini: Home of the Triton Fountain
• Piazza del Popolo: In neoclassical style, the piazza has an Egyptian obelisk of Rameses II in its centre.
• Castel Sant’ Angelo: Originally the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, it was converted into a fortress for the Popes in the 6th century AD.

After you reach the Vatican, The Papal Audience will be held either in St. Peter’s Square, the St. Peter’s Basilica or the Audience Hall (depending on seasonal variations and the number of pilgrims).

After the Papal Audience, you will be driven back and dropped near your hotel, arriving at around 1000h (10am).
